Research Area

Curome biosciences is developing treatments for mitochondrial diseases and diseases accompanying inflammation and fibrosis among rare and orphan diseases.

Inflammatory and fibrotic diseases

Inflammatory and fibrotic diseases are diseases in which certain tissues become inflamed due to genetic or environmental factors, and fibrosis progresses to the damaged area, which eventually prevents the organ from functioning properly. There is currently no effective treatment, especially for fibrosis, which can develop in various organs such as the liver, kidneys, lungs and heart.

Mitochondrial Diseases

Mitochondrial diseases are a group of rare diseases caused by abnormalities in the proteins that make up the electron transport system in mitochondria due to various genetic causes, and the mitochondria do not produce energy properly. It is a very complex disease in which symptoms appear in various organs such as the nervous system, respiratory system, and muscular system, and there is a great medical demand because no treatment has been developed so far.
